Description

The origins of this book go back over twenty years where it began as a way to encourage small groups to study the Gospel of Mark within the congregation. The idea was to write a leader’s guide as well as a study guide to enable leaders to have more detailed information on the passage discussed and for participants to have a summary of the major points and also space to write their own notes during the course of the discussion.
Mark’s Gospel is primarily designed to pass on the good news of Jesus. Mark constantly raises the question ‘Who is this?’ Who is this who has the authority to forgive sins? Who is this who has the authority to heal? Who is this who has authority over nature? Who is this who raises the dead? Who is this who has authority over demons? Mark wants readers to answer the questions by saying ‘this is Jesus the Messiah.’ This book has nineteen studies that pick up on the key themes in the Gospel of Mark.
This study is appropriate for use in small groups and also for preparing students for confirmation as it grounds them in one of the Gospels and enables them to understand the basic question ‘Who is Jesus?’ I invite and encourage churches to use it because it gives students of all ages a deeper understanding of Jesus and how to follow him as his disciples.
